Kimbra and Mark Walter
Kimbra and Mark Walter invest the vast majority of their wealth in philanthropic causes, primarily those focused on social justice— closing the “opportunity gap” for low-income youth— and conservation— where they work to save endangered species and preserve wild places around the world. Their sponsored programs include: Chicago Beyond, OneGoal and The Academy Group. The Walters also own White Oak Conservation, a 17,000-acre animal refuge in Florida, and support several wildlife preserves in Africa, where they are funding global efforts to protect endangered species from poachers and habitat loss.
Mark Walter is the co-founder of Guggenheim Partners, a financial services firm with more than $250 billion in assets under management. He also is the chairman of the Los Angeles Dodgers and an owner of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks and the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis.
The Walter Family’s largest business holdings include controlling interests in ventures that range from commercial real estate, sports, media and entertainment, the food and beverage industry, commercial lending, insurance companies and other infrastructure projects.
Mark serves on the board of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, as a director of The Field Museum, as a trustee of Northwestern University, and as a trustee of Creighton University. Mark received his J.D. from Northwestern University in 1985 and a BSBA from Creighton University in 1982.
Kimbra, also an attorney, shares Mark’s passion for conservation and education, serving on the boards of trustees of the Lincoln Park Zoo, OneGoal and the Goodman Theatre. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern in 1985 and a J.D. from Southern Methodist University.
Mark and Kimbra reside in Chicago with their daughter.
